Actizyme
Nature at work
We’ve all dealt with a blocked toilet or smelly odour from time to time. Sometimes nature works against us. But it can also work in our favour! At Actizyme, we are passionate about harnessing the power of natural microorganisms and enzymes that break down the organic matter or bacteria that can cause these odours and blockages. And after almost 50 years of development, we have an industry-leading formula that has delivered entirely safe, natural and caustic-free treatment solutions to households and businesses across Australia.
How it started
Actizyme's story began in 1966 in Dural (Sydney) with Keith Bell AOM, the founder of Southern Cross Laboratories, when he started to investigate a better solution for septic tank problems. He researched the bio-mechanics of septic tanks, leading to the development of a biological complex to enhance nature's efforts.
In 2010 the founders and owners of Aware Environmental saw the opportunity to develop the brand as it’s a far safer alternative to other common, highly corrosive and caustic drain cleaners. Just recently in March 2023 the founders set up a separate company called Actizyme Australia to better manage the manufacturing and production of Actizyme and continue the research and development that Keith started over 50 years ago.
The fact that this amazing product still leads the industry more than 50 years later is testimony to Keith’s ingenuity and the product’s time-tested qualities. From septic tanks in the home to industrial applications throughout Australia and around the world, this amazing invention is the safer and more environmentally friendly way to clean blocked drains and remove waste.
Australian made and owned
Actizyme is currently manufactured at Actizyme Australia’s factory in Dandenong, Victoria. We’re proudly made in Australia by an Australian-owned family company that is passionate about carrying on Keith’s vision of creating products that are safe to use without harming the environment. Since the adoption of the brand, we have developed many various pack sizes, including the 450g that is available in leading supermarkets across Australia. The other packs are available via resellers or online and our range of commercial-grade products are available on request.
