Hipkiss
H Hipkiss & Co Ltd is a British manufacturer that became BS5750 (now ISO 9001:2015).
Quality accredited in 1993, which supplies various industries worldwide. We are manufacturers of a wide range of eyelets and grommets, domestic hardware and precision pressings made to customers' own designs.
The History of Hipkiss
In 1835 Henry Hipkiss formed H Hipkiss & Co Ltd in Birmingham UK to form hooks and eyes.
During the latter part of the 1800's and into the 1900's H Hipkiss led in the pioneering of certain types of press equipment which are now the backbone of many press working companies.
From 1946 it was owned by firstly Sam Keeling and then the Tomkins family up to 1996. In 1996 there was a Management buyout to ensure that Hipkiss & Co Ltd as a Company carried on and three of the members of that team are the Directors today.
H Hipkiss is one of the original members of the B.H.S.F (Birmingham Hospital Saturday Fund) which was formed in 1873 to look after the health and welfare of employees in Birmingham.
We employ around 50 people and moved from our previous site 7 miles away in George Street in Birmingham City Centre in July of 2000 to our current site in Woodgate, Birmingham.
This enabled us to have a larger and more modern site with our factory and offices all on one level; laid out how we wanted it for maximum efficiency.
The extra space has also allowed us to diversify and take on extra business in sectors that we were previously not in, all of which has helped the continuity of the business and allows us to more easily accommodate anticipated future business expansion.
Hipkiss today
The company has progressively built up and maintained a reputation for quality and reliability.
We manufacture bespoke precision metal pressings and assemblies, typically from ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The Company is supported by its own in-house tool making department capable of secondary operation tooling through to more complex progression, transfer and deep drawing tools.
The Company has been a principal exporter of pressed metal components with the commonwealth countries and has achieved further success with European and international markets with many end customers coming from the automotive, electrical, electronic, leisure, security and commercial vehicle industries.
General Hardware products including light domestic chain and products used in the picture framing industry are supplied mainly to wholesale outlets.
The Company is also among the principal manufacturers of eyelets and grommets including the popular self piercing system. We export around 30% of our total turnover throughout the world and the H Hipkiss name is synonymous with “Quality & Service”.
The Company manufactures products to customers requirements and/or specifications appropriate to national and international standards or to contractually specified standards and specifications.
Where no standards or specifications exist or are specified, then the product(s) are manufactured to the Company's own in-house standard, ensuring a "fit for purpose" condition which is based on the Company's own accreditation standard.
